Some of my new sketches
While playing “mental gymnastics” with truck building ideas I started sketching a few ideas of what a 4 door Samurai might look like.
Here’s a side view and a front clip that kind of merges the look of an LJ with an SJ-410.
I can’t make up my mind if I like the look of this image or not. I tried to make the image as “to scale” as possible – I think I’ve got the proportions correct.
The wheelbase would more or less the same as a standard long wheelbase Samurai/SJ. The cutting would be from two short wheelbase trucks.
First the front half including the b-pillar portion of the door opening, then graft the second truck’s firewall (non-trivial in itself) behind that.
Then section the body so that the second door iis smaller and the factory door glass can be cut to make a square window.
The problem with this is I’m not sure how functional the second door would be. Probably be fine for small people like kids but beyond that… You could make the argument that the back of a Samurai is only fit for kids anyway.
I’m really “diggin’” this image. I might have to try to replicate it in fiberglass. :D
