New Nav Computer Snap Shot

Thanks to Jeff for the mascot! Not sure if he will stay there. May replace him with lat/long/bearing if it is easy to read off the GPS on the serial port.

Main difference from the last version is the reduction of clutter and little used features as well as an integrated mute/mixer via mutli-modal fly-out buttons (not demonstrated). The nice thing about this way of doing the mixer is that it will be available from any screen as a fly out on top of the current screen. Semantics I suppose, but I like it. I have a better way to represent the mixer setup in mind – at least I think it will be better. Need to draw it and see.

GTK still needs to be themed. I’ll probably need to do that on one of the “fat” Fedora boxes at work because I don’t want to install all the GTK/GNOME desktop stuff just to tweak the theme/fonts. Hopefully increasing the default font size will bump up the size of the GPS programs Map/Menu/Status buttons. If not it won’t be the end of the world.

Btw, GPS screen is the NASA topos that are floating around on the web, not the toporama Cdn Gov’t stuff – haven’t gotten that working yet. You can tell how Middleville is right on the edge of the hills on this map. The cluster of brown spots to the east-north-east is Ottawa. My work place is roughly at the bottom of the “U” of the river in the west end of Ottawa.

Not sure how to deal with the night version. The GPS software is capable of automatically switching from day mode to night mode (color map versus monochromatic red map). Problem with that is the rest of the gauges in the Jeep are green at night. Might clash. Or make my ass look fat or something.

Drawing in Illustrator is a lot faster than trying to do everything with GIMP/VI. Who would’ve known?
