Navigation Computer Update
Not a whole lot new with these revised images. I have themed GTK with the “Tenebrific” theme. It kind of matches the factory looking buttons in the interior of the Jeep so I’ll probably stick with it. I was toying with adding some “bling” via the addition of Apple Aqua looking buttons. I decided agasint it because it looks out of place with the rest of the systems.
Here is a quick shot of the map screen:
Then we have the Menu screen:
If you aren’t familiar with the GPS software being used you will be wondering why this screen is kinda wide/stretched. I am running the software in “PDA” mode so that single clicks can navigate from map to menu to status. PDAs have a different shaped screen so that makes the buttons look wide with my configuration.
Here is what is on the Status screen:
Again, the display of information is kind of “funky”.
It doesn’t really matter though. With any luck these screens will not be accessed very often.
I have started working on designing the layout of the MP3 player and FM tuner (gqmpeg and gqradio). Using the built in theme builder in these applications is klunky when you are starting with a blank sheet. I have decided to give up using these theme tools and started to do the initial mock up in Adobe Illustrator. Nothing to show at this point.
I got a new Mac Powerbook to replace my desktop Linux box at work. I’ve been experimenting with using iTunes while on the road between work and home and have come to the realization that whatever MP3 interface I come up with for the Jeep has to be very low work load. Trying to manipulate iTunes while driving is quite cumbersome. Mind you, trying to use a touch pad on a notebook computer is cumbersome at the best of times, at least in my experience. Doing it while driving is downright dangerous. Only did that for a few days.
