I have been receiving a lot of questions on my in-vehicle computer project. It's about time that something was posted on the site so that a web page can be referred to instead of typing something out in email all the time.

All of the software issues have been solved, including OSS -> ALSA integration so this project is now about to move from "proof of concept" to first "production prototype" for lack of a better word.

I have upgraded my camera equipment and as a part of that we have been shooting a lot more images and filling 1GB CF cards pretty quickly.

The old method of sorting our images for upload into Gallery was beginning to really slow us down. iPhoto is not an integral part of my archival method and as such it was wasted CPU cycles and overkill to manipulate the files just for upload into the main archive.

Not a whole lot new with these revised images. I have themed GTK with the "Tenebrific" theme. It kind of matches the factory looking buttons in the interior of the Jeep so I'll probably stick with it. I was toying with adding some "bling" via the addition of Apple Aqua looking buttons. I decided agasint it because it looks out of place with the rest of the systems.

Thanks to Jeff for the mascot! Not sure if he will stay there. May replace him with lat/long/bearing if it is easy to read off the GPS on the serial port.

Main difference from the last version is the reduction of clutter and little used features as well as an integrated mute/mixer via mutli-modal fly-out buttons (not demonstrated). The nice thing about this way of doing the mixer is that it will be available from any screen as a fly out on top of the current screen. Semantics I suppose, but I like it. I have a better way to represent the mixer setup in mind - at least I think it will be better. Need to draw it and see.

After messing around and getting nowhere working on the SuziTech web site this afternoon I decided to go do some violence to our on-line family album.

I've got approximately 1150 images that I need to re-input into gallery. I had been lazy the last 9 months or so and as a result all my images that had not been categorized had lost their correct file system time stamp. Moved from temp folder to temp folder, pulled off CD media (old stuff), etc., etc.

I was going to rely on using iPhoto to categorize the files by date. I had noticed that iPhoto imports stuff using a date structure so it should be just a matter of doing the import and then use the galleryadd.pl script to import the directories into the family album web site.

I have finally come up with a solution that I am happy with for keeping our data organized. This is a home use system, probably overkill for most but I think I built it fairly intelligently and thriftily. I'm a big believer in making sure you don't ever lose the data if you are going to bother organizing it.
